Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

On Friday, January 17, we started our day with an assembly honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., organized by Ms. Southern and Mr Pauzolis.

After Head of School Mr. Peychaud talked about Dr. King's vision of love and non-violent communication, each class shared their contributions. Students created "dream clouds" depicting their dreams for this world. Señora Alicia worked with First and Second Grade students to create beautiful peace doves that were on display. Third Graders sang "Take My Hand, Precious Lord," a song that Mahalia Jackson sang at Martin Luther King, Jr.'s funeral. Fourth and Fifth Graders talked about their artwork that showcased their dreams for this world, including everything from equity in sports to world peace. Ms. Nelson explained that Sixth and Seventh Graders were working on writing "peace" in different languages. The morning was capped off with a recitation of the world famous "I Have a Dream Speech" from our Eighth Grade.

After school marked the culmination of the celebration, complete with potluck and the grade finale, the Lantern Walk.
