Meet Starry Night Honoree Genevieve Nielsen

Updated: Dec 15, 2018

We are proud to introduce you to this year's Guiding Star, Waldorf School of New Orleans alumna Genevieve Nielsen. Because of what a young Genevieve had experienced in Rita Amedee's Waldorf Kindergarten, her parents and their friends were convinced they wanted Waldorf Education for their children. They hired our school's first teacher, Suzanne Hill, and established an inaugural class of five students. "The Hill School" was born in the Nielsen home. Thanks to their vision and initiative, Genevieve was one of our school's first graduates, and has gone on to accomplish great things, at university and in her career.

Genevieve Nielsen is the co-founder and CTO of mRelief. At mRelief, she has built web, text messaging, and voice platforms that have connected over 260,000 families to social services. Her perspectives on social service delivery were shaped by growing up in New Orleans and living through Hurricane Katrina. Prior to mRelief, she graduated valedictorian from Davidson College. She was included on the 2017 Forbes 30 under 30 list of social entrepreneurs.

Starry Night will take place at the New Orleans Jazz Market on February 1 from 7-10pm with special Patrons' Party beginning at 6pm. Featuring Grammy Award Winner, composer, and Jazz Trumpet Player Nicolas Payton. Get your tickets now.
