Waldorf Schools around the world play host to the beloved Winter Faire. This event always has a certain feel, but if you've never been to one, the one thing you need to know is that it's not like any school fair you've ever been to. We caught up with Winter Faire Chairperson Michaele McCarthy to find out what Winter Faire is all about.
1. What is the Winter Faire?
It is a fair coordinated by parents to promote community, showcase the school for potential students as well as a fundraiser. There will be a puppet show, candle dipping, tree sale, craft room, face painting, cafe, bake sale, booths with items that have that special Waldorf feel, as well as a raffle with an award-winning quilt as the top prize!
2. What inspired the school to start the Winter Faire?
Erin Pelias (WNSO Development Coordinator) approached the school to have a Winter Faire as other Waldorf schools do.
3. Tell us more about who's behind the scenes making this event happen?
There is a Board of volunteers from the parent community, and school personnel working on different aspects of the project.
4. What are you most looking forward to about the Winter Faire?
The joy that will be among the community members and who will win the quilt!
5. What's the one thing we shouldn't miss at this year's Winter Faire?
Puppet show for sure!!! Probably the bake sale, but then I am a real foodie.
6. Anything else we should know about the faire?
It is from 10 am - 4 pm on December 1, 2018 at 517 Soraparu St. There will be a magic forest made from the Christmas trees for sale.
The Waldorf School of New Orleans Winter Faire will take place on Saturday, December 1 from 10am - 5pm. To learn more about it, visit our Winter Faire Page.
